Blue Devils trounce Wilson
Brockport's boys soccer team increased their record to 2-1 with a 7-1 win at home against Wilson September 10. Sophomore Scott Larnder scored the first two goals of the game in the first 20 minutes with assists from Blaine Hastings and Stephen Remillard. Senior Aaron Webster closed out the first half with his first goal of the season to make it 3-0 and opened the second half with his second goal after Maurice Powell forced a turnover at midfield and fed Webster.
At the 61:42 mark of the game, senior Mark Rich fed a pass into the box, which was intended for Steven Popowych. Senior Dan Holding put the loose ball into the net to increase the Blue Devil lead to 5-0. Wilson's Anes Osmic broke goalkeeper Stephen Essig's shutout bud at the 65:46 mark before Brockport broke the game open with two goals in the final ten minutes. The final tallies were by Remillard and junior Steven Battisti who put a laser in from long distance which deflected off the crossbar and in the net making the final 7-1.
Webster spoke after the game about the game plan, "our idea was to take the ball outside and then cross to the middle to utilize our team speed." Larnder mentioned the key "was not staying stationary - we were trying to keep moving even without the ball." Essig made three saves in goal for the win.
