This American Flag, owned by the Snyder Family of Churchville, was hoisted for display last week via the fire truck owned by the Kurycki family. The flag was originally presented to the Snyders in memory of Steve Snyder who was a TWA pilot on board Flight 800 that crashed on Long Island five years ago. The two Dewey Avenue families got together to display the flag as a salute to America following last week's terrorist attacks. Photo by Linda Huffman.

The children, parents and staff of Brockport Child Care Center, located on the SUNY Brockport campus, are collecting loose change to donate to the relief effort in New York City. The child care center provides before and after school care for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Children are better able to regain a sense of security if they feel they can help in some way, said teacher Amy Armstrong.
In less than 48 hours over $250 was raised, with more expected to be collected.
Brockport Fire Explorers
raise over $5,000
The Brockport Fire Explorers held a car wash September 16 to benefit the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund in honor of fallen firefighters. The previously scheduled car wash was originally intended to raise funds for their operation and much needed equipment, but in wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the young people asked permission to redirect the funds. Fire Chief Gregory Wing approved the request.
The Brockport community responded with over $5,000 in donations in just six hours. Some residents had their cars washed, others simply made donations.
BOCES 2 VICA offers ribbons
Vocational and Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) officers at the BOCES 2 Career and Technical Education Center in Spencerport started an I Care campaign with a goal to raise at least $5,000 for victims and their families of the recent terrorists acts.
For a $1 donation, students will display 7" x 7" color-printed flags with an I Care message and a line for people to sign. Flags were available beginning Monday, September 17. People who donate will receive a red, white and blue ribbon, made by the students and staff at BOCES 2, thanking them for their support. Flags and ribbons will also be available at area businesses, including HSBC Bank in Spencerport and the Doan Family of Dealerships. Additional donations are welcome and will go directly to the American Red Cross. The flags will be displayed at the Career and Technical Center and area businesses.
The cost for printing the flags and materials for the ribbons was donated by VICA so 100 percent of the money raised will go to the victims and their families. For more information on how to make a donation, contact Midge McCloskey at BOCES 2, 352-2462.
