News anchor Walter Cronkite featured guest
at Lakeside's Annual Gala Dinner
Walter Cronkite will be the featured speaker at the Lakeside Foundation's 2001 Annual Gala Dinner. Lakeside Foundation is a member of the Lakeside Health System which includes Lakeside Memorial Hospital, Lakeside Beikirch Care Center, Lakeside Child Care and the Daisy Marquis Jones Family Wellness Center.
Lakeside is continuing its tradition of hosting its signature events and welcoming speakers of world renown. Cronkite follows in the footsteps of former President George Bush, Generals Colin Powell, Norman Schwarzkopf and Former First Lady Barbara Bush.
A "Conversation with Walter Cronkite" will take place December 7, at Rochester Riverside Convention Center where guests will hear Don Alhart, News Anchor, WOKR-Channel 13, interview Cronkite.
As one of the most recognizable news reporters in American journalism, Cronkite is best known for his reporting that has spanned such major world events as World War II, the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the Vietnam War, the 1969 lunar landing and the Watergate scandal.
Following his retirement, Cronkite has kept active by hosting and producing numerous documentaries, public affairs programs and television specials. In 1995, he provided the voice of the book for the Broadway musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, he is the author of A Reporter's Life, a narrative of his life and career in journalism, and four books on sailing - his favorite pastime; the most recent of which was published in August 2001.
This year's Annual Gala Dinner theme is, "Voyage of a Lifetime," a theme which builds on Cronkite's love of sailing.
