Sweden Republican Committee announces 2001 candidates
The Town of Sweden Republican Committee has selected five candidates for the positions open for election in 2001. Three incumbents are endorsed in the upcoming election: Nat "Buddy" Lester for town supervisor; Rob Carges for town council and Gail DeToy for town clerk. The Republican Committee also endorsed two new candidates; Danielle Windus-Cook, who is running for town council, and William J. Cody, a candidate for Sweden Town Justice.
Buddy Lester has served as the Sweden supervisor for the past four years. Rob Carges has served on the Sweden Town Board for eight years and Gail DeToy has been the Sweden Town Clerk for seven years. Each of the incumbent candidates is proficient in the workings of town government and have been residents of the Town of Sweden for most, if not all, of their lives.
Candidate Danielle Windus-Cook is making her first run at public office. She has been a member of the Village of Brockport Zoning Board for six years and is a 30 year resident of Brockport. Windus-Cook is also a local real estate agent which has given her great exposure throughout the community and provided her with essential insight into the needs of town residents, according to committee members.
The Republican Committee is also endorsing Attorney William J. Cody for town justice. Cody was appointed as acting town justice in June 2001, after Justice Sharon Kehoe stepped down from her position. Cody would bring to the bench 23 years of legal expertise and currently maintains a private practice of law in the Village of Brockport.
All of the candidates have received the highest recommendation from the Town of Sweden Republican Committee and will prove to be worthy participants in the upcoming election.
