Holley, BB girls tie 0-0
"Both teams had their chances, but both goalkeepers did a nice job," Byron-Bergen head coach Jen Faro said, summing up the 0-0 tie between Holley and the host Bees on September 17.
Byron-Bergen hit a post in the first ten minutes and Holley's best chance came off the foot of senior Ariana Cuadrado. Her shot deflected off of Bees keeper Jocelyn Mroz and dribbled toward the goal, but was smothered just short of the line with 14 minutes left in the first half.
The Hawks had two more opportunities in the first 90 seconds of the second half but could not convert. Hawks head coach Mick VanDeMar made an adjustment at half time by "switching from a 4-3 to a 4-2 because they kept pushing their stopper up."
Byron-Bergen had the bulk of the chances including another post off a corner kick with 22 minutes left in regulation. A final chance came with just 18 seconds left in the second overtime when sophomore A.J. Wells fed junior Megan Richards a pass in the box, which she knocked just wide.
Holley junior Allison Hill made 22 saves in goal while Byron-Bergen's Mroz countered with 16 saves in the double shutout. The Bees remain undefeated this season at 5-0 while the Hawks improved to 2-2-1 overall.
