Outreach efforts continue

Members of the Brockport High School Art Club created patriotic pins to raise funds for the American Red Cross.

She’s proud to be an American - One-and-one-half year old Andrea Victoria Newman, the mascot for the Hilton Raiders “A” Team Cheerleaders showed her patriotic spirit as the National Anthem was sung prior to the start of the September 16 football game. This photo was submitted by a family member.

Seven-year-old Evan Dunham’s father, Mark, shot this photograph of his son prior to their leaving for the Boy and Girl Scouts’ Salute to America program at Frontier Field in Rochester September 23. Evan is a Cub Scout in Pack 323 Hamlin. Scouts from across Monroe County, their families and friends joined together for a rally for patriotism that Sunday afternoon. Local fire departments, law enforcement agencies and supporting organizations participated. A memorial service led by the Rochester City Fire Department honored firefighters who lost their lives in the New York City World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001.

Brockport High School Art Club project raises disaster aid funds

The members of the Brockport High School Art Club raised over $550 in only three days creating and selling handpainted patriotic pins. The pins are being sold to classmates and faculty members in the high school for $3 each. The artistic endeavor raises funds for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund. Materials for the pins were paid for through donations and with money raised last year by the club. All of the profits from this fundraiser will go to charity. Students have enthusiastically embraced working on this project as a way for them to use their artistic talents to help out during this time of crisis in America.

ESL to match
credit union donations

ESL Federal Credit Union will contribute up to $100,000 to the local Red Cross to aid in the relief efforts after the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. ESL will make an immediate $50,000 donation and has agreed to match the contributions of all other Rochester-area credit unions, up to an additional $50,000.

The mechanics of the program are simple. The Red Cross will let ESL know when a credit union makes a contribution during the next 60 days. ESL will send the Red Cross a check for a like amount for as long as the $50,000 lasts. The source of funds is not important. It can come from credit union staff, from their members or from credit union funds.

Help send gloves to NYC disaster workers

Spencerport Insurance owner Linda Rauber said a recent visit to New York City with her husband Ted, prompted a decision of what Spencerport-area residents might do to help with recovery work at the World Trade Center site. They, along with Family Hardware owner Dave Richie, have coordinated the sale of leather gloves for emergency workers. Rauber said workers wear through gloves and hand injuries are common. Spencerport Postmaster Bill Conley volunteered to provide the shipment of the donated gloves to New York City.

Gloves will be available at Family Hardware, 129 Union Street, Spencerport for anyone who wishes to purchase them. Pens will also be in stock for those who wish to write a supportive greeting or message to emergency workers.

Pee Wee A Hockey donates proceeds from car wash

The Pee Wee A House hockey team of the Tri-County Youth Hockey League conducted a car wash on Saturday, September 22, the proceeds of which were split between the team and the Red Cross Relief Fund to aid the families of the World Trade Center disaster. The players and their families worked very hard (and had some fun in the process) and raised almost $600. Mobil On the Run at the corner of Route 19 and East Avenue in Brockport provided the space and the water.
