Attica sweeps Bees
The Attica Blue Devils used a strong service game to defeat the Byron-Bergen Lady Bees 30-19, 30-19 and 30-15 in girl's volleyball on September 24. This season, a new rally scoring system is in effect meaning a point is awarded on each serve and each game is played to 30 points as long as the winning margin is two points or more.
The first game was one of streaks with Attica going on a 10-2 run to lead before the Bees went on an 8-1 run of their own to trail by three points. Attica closed with a 14-7 advantage including 8-0 at one point to win. Game two was close at first with the Bees behind 8-7, but an 8-3 run by the Blue Devils made it 16-10 and Attica took over.
The most competitive game was the third. After Attica took a 9-4 lead, the Bees came back with junior Ashley Kelly serving five straight points to tie the game 9-9. The Blue Devils finished off the sweep with a 21-6 spurt including a 12-0 streak.
Byron-Bergen's Lexy Randall led her team with four kills, Kelly had seven service points in all to go with her three aces and junior Melanie Darocha added four assists. The Bees dropped to 1-6 on the season.
