Saints beat Cadets on the road
The Churchville-Chili Saints won 21-7 for the first time in their 10-year high school football existence under the lights in Hilton on September 21.
Saints senior running back Travis Cyrus carried the ball 35 times for 183 yards and two touchdowns to pace the offense. "This team practices hard all week and we have a good coaching staff," Cyrus said. "If the line is blocking the way they did tonight, I can run anywhere."
Churchville-Chili scored on their first possession of the game capped off by wide receiver Dan Philips' eight-yard scoring pass from senior quarterback Craig Ferris. The Saints defense kept Hilton at bay by holding them to just 42 yards of total offense in the first half to keep the score 7-0, Churchville-Chili.
Hilton opened the second half with a 56-yard kickoff return by Ken Hauck who took the ball down to the Saints' 34-yard line. Two plays later, senior Abelardo Torres ran through the defense on a 32-yard run to tie the game 7-7. That score held until the final quarter.
The Saints and Cyrus woke up in the fourth quarter with a five-yard TD run on the first play of the fourth quarter and an 18-yard touchdown run to finish the scoring. Ferris was 5-10 for 84 yards passing with one touchdown and Philips caught two passes for 60 yards for the Saints.
Head coach Paul Dick talked about his 3-0 Saints, "They made a great play on the second half kickoff, but we're very happy with the way this team played tonight." The team record for regular season wins is five set in 1996.
