Churchville passes noise ordinance
The Churchville Village Broad unanimously passed an amended noise ordinance October 1 following a public hearing attended by six residents and a representative from the Monroe County Sheriffs Department.
According to Village Clerk Sue Davis, the two amendments were made to the section prohibiting the use of power equipment in residential zones before 7 a.m. on weekdays, and 8 a.m. on weekends.
Gerald Mitrano, Hutton Circle, told the board that residents would be unable to use snow blowers in the morning, or run generators at night in an emergency. Those uses are now exempted.
In response to a question about enforcement from Mark Majewski, South Main Street, Mayor Donald R. Ehrmentraut said the law would be enforced by both New York State Troopers and Monroe County Sheriffs Deputies.
Ehrmentraut encourages residents to call 911 if they hear a disturbance. He said identifying information, such as a license plate on a loud car or motorcycle, can help. To issue a ticket, the issuing officer must see or hear the offense, but a resident may fill out a complaint, and testify in court, if necessary.
In other business: the board will continue to hear and discuss proposals at upcoming meetings from two industries wishing to build or expand in the village.
Precision Packaging has approached the board with a proposal to build a new plant on Sanford Road North. Star of the West Milling, on South Main Street in the village, proposed splitting a property it owns on Fitch Street to expand its business.
The Village Board meets again October 15 at 7:15 p.m. at the village office, 22 South Main Street.
