Boys State Reps honored by Noone Post
Boys State is a hands-on five day training program held annually at SUNY Morrisville. It is sponsored by American Legion Posts across the State of New York. The objective is to familiarize qualified high school boys in the functions of state government and how it operates. The 1,000 delegates elect a governor and all other offices. They then proceed into mock sessions, including, but not limited to budgetary, law making, committees and senate/representative interactions.
Harvey C. Noone Post 954 in Churchville selects its delegates from the Churchville-Chili School through a rigorous selection process via academic standards, a written essay, and personal interviews. A select committee of Post members are ably assisted by Vendla Clark, Principal and Marjorie D. Boudens, Guidance Counselor for the CCSS District. Four students were selected for the 2001 program.
Andre W. Schalm was sponsored by the whole membership of the Harvey C. Noone Post 954, Eric Valentine was sponsored by the Harvey C. Noone Past Commanders Club. Patrick Martin was sponsored by Law Enforcement Post 1182. Hatho Lohnen was sponsored by Chili Post 1830. The sponsors pay all expenses for their delegates.
Three delegates attended the Harvey C. Noone Post 954 September meeting and received framed certificates honoring them as attendees. The three delegates each gave a detailed description of their experiences at the convention.
The selection process for the 2002 program will be put in motion in the near future. Harvey C. Noone Post 954 has participated in this program for several decades and will continue to do so in the future as one of its many community service activities.
