Emmanuel Tchanque, a SUNY Brockport senior, will receive the Continuing Education Association/New York (CEA/NY) New York State Outstanding Adult Student Award. Tchanque received a plaque and $100 check as the Region IV award winner. Later this month, he will be the recipient of a plaque and $750 as the CEA/NY state honoree at the awards ceremony in Saratoga Springs. This is the second consecutive year that a Brockport student has taken home the state award.

Tchanque, a triple major in computational science, computer science and mathematics, has a wife and a nine-month-old baby girl. In addition to his studies, he is a tutor for the SSSP program, holds a full-time job as a home health aide, and he also volunteers for the Eastern Service Worker Organization.


Michael Stoll, Dean of Math, Science, and Career Education at Genesee Community College, has been chosen to participate in the National Design Studio on Career and Technical Education, October 17-19. Dean Stoll resides in Bergen. Participants at this national workshop will shape the future vision for career and technical education at community colleges and technical schools in the U.S. They will develop and evaluate processes that can be applied at the institutional level to address the effectiveness and efficiency of programs using leading thinking, current research, and promising practices.

Dean Stoll has been a Professor of Business at Genesee Community College since 1968, and the Bergen Town Supervisor since 1984. He is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, and has a master's degree in business administration from the State University of New York at Albany. Dean Stoll has held several executive offices, including President, for the Association of Marketing Educators, and has been President of the Genesee Association of Municipalities for over ten years.


Rosann Panek, of Churchville, was named Lakeside Health System's Employee of the Month for October. Panek, a full-time outpatient physical therapist assistant, who has worked in the Physical Therapy Department for three years, was chosen for her dedication to patient care, exceptional attendance record, punctuality and ability to multi-task.


Carole Anne Cole, Spencerport, has graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a master's degree in packaging. Cole studied in RIT's College of Applied Science and Technology. She is the daughter of Judy and Tom Cole of Spencerport and a 1997 graduate of Spencerport High School. Cole has taken a position with Kraft in East Hanover, New Jersey. She is working in the confections department.


Kristin E. Peletz has graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) basic Camp Challenge at Fort Knox, Kentucky. The camp is a five-week training program that serves as the Army's two-year ROTC Program entry point. College students experience and examine the Army without incurring an obligation and qualify for the Advanced ROTC Course program. The cadet is a student at SUNY Brockport. Peletz is the daughter of Barbara A. Strebel of Brockport and is a 1998 graduate of Brockport High School.


Army Reserve Pvt. James J. Pernicano has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received instruction and practice in drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, physical fitness, basic first aid, and Army values, principles and traditions. Pernicano is the son of Samuel Pernicano and grandson of Marion Bennett, both of North Chili. He is a 2000 graduate of McQuaid Jesuit High School.
