Saints on a roll
The Churchville-Chili Saints boy's soccer team won their sixth consecutive game by downing Spencerport 3-1 October 10.
Saints midfielder Mike Mertz gave them a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute on a beautiful cross from freshman Chris Brugger after his rush down the left side of the box. Just two minutes later, senior captain Dave Kontje made it 2-0 with an assist from Matt Ketchum.
In the second half, the Saints made it 3-0 in the 58th minute. Danny Caparco fed a lead pass above the box to Ketchum who put the ball in the lower left corner of the net. Spencerport was able to break up the shutout bid with nine minutes left on a goal by Jeff Poweski from Mike Somers.
After starting the season 0-5-3, Churchville-Chili has now made it six wins in a row and over the .500 mark for the first time this season at 6-5-3. Head coach Rich Carcia wasn't completely happy with the effort though; "We got a little too complacent in e second half and made some mistakes. Spencerport had their chances to tie the game in the last few minutes and they outplayed us in the first five minutes of the game."
