The following area resident was named a Dean's Scholar at Syracuse University: Jessica Lange, of Spencerport. Lange is enrolled in Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts.


The following area residents were named Founder's Scholars at Syracuse University: Amanda Poole, of Hilton, a student in Syracuse University's School of Architecture; and J. Giese, of Morton, a student in Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.


SUNY Empire State College's Genesee Valley Center held a graduation ceremony to recognize 190 degree graduates on Sunday, October 28. Degree candidates included local residents: Sandra S. Barge of Bergen; Michelle Hernandez of Brockport; Ellen DiSano of Brockport; Maureen L. Merron of Hilton; Mark Harter of Hilton; Michael Ridley of Holley; Stacy R. Youst Sillen of Spencerport; and Ria E. Stuchell of Spencerport.


David W. Clarke, P.E., has joined MRB Group as an Engineering Project Manager. Clarke, who residents in Ogden, graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a bachelor of science degree in 1981. He has over 20 years of experience in design and administration of highway and civil engineering projects in both private and public sectors and has served on several planning and task force committees for Monroe County and the City of Rochester.


Collin McCormack, son of Sean and Sandra McCormack of Churchville, recently participated in the Marietta College freshman orientation program, Finding Your Place … Making Your Mark. The five day program gave new students a chance to become acquainted with their classmates, the campus, college life, and the community through activities and lectures.


Veteran Scouter Tom Van Griethuysen, of Greece, was presented the "God and Service Award" by Bethany Presbyterian Church Pastor Rev. Dr. James Todd, during a regular Sunday worship service. The award recognizes service, both to the Scouting movement and to the church. Richard Ulrich of Greece, chairman of the local Protestant Committee on Scouting, and a number of other previous recipients of the award, also participated in the presentation.


Army Pvt. Kevin L. Noskie has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received instruction and practice in drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, physical fitness, basic first aid, and Army values, principles, and traditions. Noskie is the son of Ken Noskie of Hilton. He is a 2001 graduate of Hilton High School.
