Byron-Bergen announces new 5-12 executive principal
Donna Schalge is a native of Greece, New York and has lived in Hamlin for the past twenty-five years. She holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Marietta College in Ohio, a master's degree in Secondary Mathematics Education and a Certificate of Advanced Study in educational administration from SUNY Brockport. In addition, she has completed several graduate hours in computer science. She recently began study at the University of Rochester's Warner School of Education in the doctoral program.
As Executive Principal of the Secondary School, Schalge will be responsible for the administration and management of the 5-12 building complex, with responsibility for the organization, coordination, supervision, evaluation and interpretation of the total instructional program and support services.
Schalge began her teaching career in the Greece Central School District as a high school mathematics teacher and eventually added computer programming to her teaching repertoire. Schalge had the opportunity to serve an administrative internship in professional development and thus began her career as a "teacher of teachers." She has been a professional development trainer and frequent conference presenter for both mathematics and computer science educators. She also held the position of teacher center director for the Greece Central School District before assuming the position of assistant principal at the Odyssey School in Greece.
Greece Odyssey is a 6-12 secondary school of choice in Greece. The school was designed in the Effective Schools model of instructional delivery. After four years at Odyssey, Schalge assumed the position of assistant principal in the Webster Central School District at Schroeder High School. She has also been an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Education and Human Development at SUNY Brockport in the graduate master's program in mathematics education.
