Spencerport's Christmas on the Canal
The 6th annual Christmas on the Canal celebration on Union Street (between West Avenue and Amity Street) in the Village of Spencerport is scheduled for Sunday, December 2. The old fashioned event is a fun filled day for the whole family with festivities beginning at 2:30 p.m. with church choirs singing, horse drawn hayrides, food and entertainment by school bands, dance studios and area vocal talent. A living Nativity scene, nursery school play, Santa, as well as the new children's tent will appeal to young and old alike.
The excitement mounts and increases until at 5 p.m. all of the church bells toll, announcing the tree lighting and one mile Candlelight Caroling stroll which takes place at the gazebo on the canal.
Caroling candles and protective covers will be sold for $1 during the event - this year in patriotic colors, as well as tri-color red, white and blue glow necklaces for the children selling at $2 each.
This event has proven to be a special time for families to share quality time making memories, friends to come together, and a time to give thanks for the meaning of the season, according to organizers.
