Spencerport officials invite residents
to discuss proposed water rate increase
Spencerport Mayor Theodore Walker invites all interested parties to the December 5 meeting of the Village of Spencerport Board of Trustees. The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. At this meeting, there will be general discussion and presentation of proposed water rates for Village of Spencerport customers.
According to village officials, the new water rates will help to
- Maintain the vitality of the utility by meeting revenue, operating, and regulatory requirements;
- Provide for a stable rate structure;
- Offset increased costs of purchasing water from the Monroe County Water Authority; and
- Pay for debt service associated with various capital improvement initiatives recently undertaken by the Village for its customers.
The commodity rate (water use cost) is projected to become $3.55 per 1000 gallons. This is an increase of $0.61 per 1000 gallons over the current rate of $2.94. Base rates are also expected to increase on average 11%. Increases to both the commodity and base rates will generate an additional $72,000 annually for the utility.
Proposed rates become effective January 1, 2002 and will be reflected on water customers' March, 2002 water bills.
