MCC breaks enrollment record

A record-breaking 16,157 students have enrolled at Monroe Community College this fall, surpassing last year's total by over 800 students and reaffirming MCC's position as the largest college in Greater Rochester.

This is the third consecutive year that MCC has broken enrollment records. College officials attribute the 5.5 percent increase to growing interest in transfer programs and internet-based courses offered via the SUNY Learning Network. Academic programs that experienced significant increases include engineering sciences, liberal arts, business, and visual and performing arts. Enrollment in internet-based courses increased by 30 percent.

This fall's freshman class grew by 7.5 percent and, at 5,698, is the largest entering class in the college's history.

The record-breaking enrollment includes only individuals in credit-bearing programs. Thousand more are served in MCC's non-credit, community-based programs and workforce training for companies such as Eastman Kodak, Delphi Automotive, Diamond Packaging and Monroe County.
