Boy Scout Troop 292 held a Court of Honor on November 15 to recognize Gregory P. Tschorke and Jason M. DiCiaccio for attaining the rank of Eagle.

Greg and Jason were escorted on stage by fellow Eagle Scouts, Rob Warchol and Brian Mooney. Jeff Wumkes acted as Master of Ceremonies. Gary Wumkes, Scoutmaster, presented Greg and Jason with their Eagle Awards following a candle lighting ceremony in which Eric DiCiaccio and Andy Tschorke lit candles that followed the path to Eagle Scout. James Richards and Jim Corke were readers in the ceremony. Assistant Scoutmasters Ron Wadkins and Marion Warchol spoke about Jason and Greg and their years of scouting. Additional presentations were made by Nancy Austin, Chili Lions Club, Steve Henderschott, Supervisor of the Town of Chili, Dan Cox, Chili Fire Department, Frank Allkofer, Monroe County Parks Department and Paula Smith, Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation Department.

To earn the rank of Eagle, a scout must earn 21 merit badges and complete an approved community service project. Jason's project included organizing a crew of scouts to clear and mulch a trail in a Gates town park. Greg obtained information from the Finger Lakes Regional Poison and Drug Information Center on household poisoning prevention, prepared emergency phone number sheets and distributed the information throughout several residential neighborhoods in Chili. Assisting Jason and Greg were Scouts from Troop 292, neighbors and friends, as well as several troop leaders and parents.

Greg is the son of Steve and Betsy Tschorke and older brother to Andy, a Life Scout. He is a senior at Gates-Chili High School and a member of the National Honor Society and Who's Who Among American High School Students. Greg began his Scouting years as a Tiger Cub in Pack 402 and moved to Troop 292 in 1996 where he progressed through the ranks and was accepted by the Eagle Scout Board of Review in June 2001. In July 2001, Greg attended the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Virginia that culminated his many years of Scouting memories. After graduation, he hopes to attend a major university on an Air Force ROTC scholarship where he plans to pursue a degree in engineering.

Jason is the son of Steve and Rhonda DiCiaccio and older brother to Eric, a Second Class scout, Matthew and Alicia. Jason is a junior at Gates Chili High School. He currently is a Youth Apprentice at HSBC bank thorough the BOCES program at school. He is a member of the Technology Club and has competed in several competitions. Jason is also currently involved with a travel organization for students called People to People, a Student Ambassador Program. He just recently went to Europe for three weeks and visited France, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and Italy. He was recently selected to attend a People to People trip to Australia in 2002.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Greg Tschorke presented Scoutmaster Gary Wumkes with the Scout Master Award of Merit. The troop committee nominated Mr. Wumkes for the award last year when Greg was Senior Patrol Leader. This surprise presentation honored Gary Wumkes for his dedication and leadership to Troop 292.
