History CD makes timeless gift
Christmas is fast approaching and there is always one person left on the list that is impossible to buy for. What do you get the individual that has everything? How about answers to questions?
What do you do when you get stepped on by a Bovine? How much did wheat cost in 1886? What is the Pathfinder Spring Company? Could you guess by looking at photographs of local homes, which belonged to Elihu Church?
All of these questions and more can be answered with the purchase of two searchable CD-ROM's available at the Newman Riga Library for $20. A timeless gift filled with fun facts, black and white photos of people, buildings and familiar places, this is the definitive gift of Churchville history, according to Newman Riga Library librarian Donna Haire.
A built-in search engine allows the user to simply type in a keyword and gain access to articles, photos and other related material.
The Newman Riga Library spent approximately 18 months cataloging and scanning those items housed at the Town of Riga in order to produce this historical set. In addition, those items, including photographs and articles belonging to the library, were also included. This particular product is unique in its "searchability" and covers a vast array of information. It is the perfect gift for the amateur historian as well as any new Riga resident anxious to learn about their new home.
The CD is available at the Newman Riga Library, 1 Village Park, at the intersection of Main Street and Buffalo Road. Call 293-2009 during regular business hours for information.
