Ranger netters win home opener
The Spencerport Rangers received 16 aces from four different players in a three-set romp over Greece Odyssey November 27, 30-11, 30-11, 30-18 in girls' volleyball. It was the home opener for Spencerport.
Kristen Bourne led the way with seven aces as she got the Rangers off to 6-0 and 8-0 starts in game one and two respectively. Marisa Paolini had four aces and Amy Skinner added three. Kristina Schweikert added three kills to her own two-ace effort.
Spencerport ran out to 6-0 and 11-3 leads and put the first game away with a 15-5 stretch to finish. Game two wasn't any closer with the lead up to nineteen as Skinner spiked for the game's final point. With everyone playing in game three, the Rangers led 22-7 before allowing Odyssey to go on a 10-5 run. But they put the game away winning three of the final four points for the sweep.
Headcoach Amy Burbano is optimistic about the new season, "We have six seniors (Bourne, Paolini, Schweikert, Skinner, Stephanie Elias, Amanda Bischopping) and our juniors are coming from a JV team that went 17-1 last season. We're excited about the season."
