Blue Devils in first place
Casey Balog had a goal and two assists and Jimmy Baker added one goal and one assist to lead the Brockport Blue Devils to a 5-2 win over Irondequoit in high school hockey action. The victory gave the Blue Devils sole possession of first place in the White Division with a 5-0 record, 8-0 overall.
Jarod Miner put Brockport ahead 1-0 with his second goal of the season 1:31 into the game assisted by Pat McCarthy and Rich Napierala. The Indians would tie the game late in the first period before Brandon Dries stole the puck from a defenseman and backhanded a shot into the net in the second period for a lead the Blue Devils would not relinquish. Baker scored his goal late in the second period, but the Indians scored to pull within one midway through the final period. On the next shift, Dan Holding found a wide-open net off a passing play from Balog and Baker to make the score 4-2 Brockport. Balog would add an empty-net goal to close out the scoring.
Nick Unger made 16 saves in net for the Blue Devils and said, "I can't remember the last time Brockport beat Irondequoit in hockey so this feels great to finally do it as a senior. After tying them 0-0 last season, we had this game marked down, we wanted to play well and we did."
Brockport will next play in the Westside Holiday Tournament with Spencerport, Webster and Auburn December 27-28 at SUNY Brockport.
