Harvey C. Noone Post to distribute service banners
The September 11 terrorist attacks on United States soils have plunged the nation into a war on terrorism. The Harvey C. Noone Post 954 and its Past Commanders Club are reviving a tradition from every war and conflict the nation has been involved.
The objective, labeled the "Blue Star Program," is to recognize and honor families who have a family member serving in the military during times of war or conflict. The recognition is accomplished by displaying a blue star banner in a visible window in their home. The banner is made of satin with a white center field bordered by red; a blue star is placed on the white field. Multiple stars mean more than one family member is serving. If a service member is killed in action the blue star is replaced by a gold star. During World War II, millions of American homes across the nation displayed these banners.
Noone Post will present a "Blue Star Banner" to any family living in the Town of Riga, including the Village of Churchville, that has a family member serving in the military that has completed basic training.
Families should advise Post members of the family name, address and phone number so that arrangements can be made for presentation of the traditional banner. Distribution will begin in January 2002.
