Driver Education classes to be offered in Spencerport
There will be a meeting of students and parents wishing to enroll into the spring session of driver education on Tuesday, January 22 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Board of Education Meeting Room located in the Administration Building, 71 Lyell Avenue, Spencerport.
A parent or guardian must accompany the student to the meeting. Thirty-six spots will be assigned on a first-come, first served basis in the following order: Spencerport seniors, juniors, sophomores, then out-of-district residents. All applicants must have a current NYS Learner's Permit and bring it with them to the meeting.
Enrolled students must attend classroom sessions from 4 to 5:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from February 5 through May 2. In addition, students must attend one road class per week from February 6 through June 15. Road classes will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:30 to 4 p.m. or 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday road classes will be scheduled 8:30 to 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m. to noon or noon to 1:30 p.m.
The cost of the class is $320 for Spencerport students or $330 for out-of-district residents. The fee includes the five-hour, pre-licensing class ($30) required to make an appointment for a driver's test. Transportation to and from the test is not included in the program.
Successful completion of the driver education class will qualify for a class D operator's license when reaching age 17 and a 10 percent discount on liability and collision auto insurance.
