AREA
Lawrence, Robert W., 85, on January 6, 2002 at Lakeside Memorial Hospital. Mr. Lawrence was born in Rochester in July of 1916 to the late William (Catherine) Lawrence.
Mr. Lawrence was a veteran of WWII having received the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He was a member of the Sheret Post of the American Legion. Following the war he worked at Eastman Kodak until he retired in 1979. Mr. Lawrence moved to the Albion area in the mid 1980s and has resided there since. His first wife, Helen, predeceased him in 1979. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Joan (Ekiert), and his children, Anna Marie (Valentine) Piotrowski of Greece, Alan (Kriste) Lawrence of Chli, Doreen (Kenneth) Beaumont of Irondequoit, Jean Muscato of Greece and June (John III) Gehrs of Irondequoit; five step children, Thomas (Clare) Ekiert of Hamlin, Timothy (Kathy) Ekiert of Greece, Stephen (Sharon) Ekiert of Gates, Francis (Donna) Ekiert of Gates and Marianne (Keith) Kimmerly of Hilton. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren; one sister, Vera Pfaff of Hilton and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was said January 9 at Saint Mary's Church on Brown Street in Albion. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester at the conve-nience of the family. Those wishing can make memorial remembrances to the American Heart Association.
BROCKPORT
Gallo, James, On Friday, January 4, 2002 at the age of 89. Predeceased by his wife, Margaret and survived by his daughters, Diane (Burt) Galbraith, Marilyn (Ray) Van deBogart, Cynthia (James) DeTar; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary and Elsie in Florida. He is the former owner of the Lincoln Restaurant in Brockport and a member of the Church of the Nativity BVM and a WWII Navy vet.
Funeral Mass was held on January 7 at Nativity BVM Church, Main Street, Brockport. Friends wishing can make donations to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association.
Hawkes, Robert A., After a long battle with cancer, died January 1, 2002. He is survived by a large circle of friends and family including his wife, Jean; his stepchildren, Chris Bailey, Mark and Cheryl Bailey; his beloved brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. Robert and Nancy Gayou; his children, David and Sidney Hawkes; his brothers and sister, Margaret Wing, James Hawkes, and Ethel Hawkes; several nieces and nephews; his nine grandchildren and many good friends including Veola Hawkes, Barbara Dennis, Jerdine Johnson, Booker T. Washington and Alfred Norwood.
Mr. Hawks devoted his life to children in various roles throughout his lifetime. He earned a Masters in Chemistry from Conesus College and completed graduate studies in Counseling Psychology at the University of Rochester. He began his career as a science teacher in the Buffalo School District where his creative and well known Science Fair led to his recruitment to teach at Buffalo State University and ultimately to direct SEEK, the college's Equal Opportunity Program (EOP). He was a consultant with State Education Department and was recruited to serve as an Assistant Dean and Director of EOP at the University of Rochester. During his graduate studies at the U of R, he interned at the Threshold, a youth agency where he eventually became the Director of its Learning Center. He returned to teaching at Empire State College and retired to accept the position of Clinical Director of the Daybreak Alcoholism Treatment Facility of the Health Association. After his retirement, he worked part time as Assistant Director of Eastside Community Center and eventually volunteered as a mentor in the Eastside Out Entrepreneurial program guiding six young men into adulthood for which he was honored with the City of Rochester Unsung Hero Award.
A Memorial Service limited to family and close friends is being planned. Contributions can be made to a charity of the donor's choice in his memory.
CHILI
Schulik, John E., Tuesday, January 1, 2002 at the age of 74. Predeceased by his wife, Dixie Ann. He is survived by his three sons, Martin (Deborah), Timothy (Kerry) and John (Barbara); grandchildren, Krystal, Brittany, Danielle, Dalton, Joshua, and Tashia; brother, Edward; and uncle of Christine (Schulik) Hayes and Michael Schulik; and several nieces and nephews. John was a retired City of Rochester Fire Fighter and a WWII Navy Veteran.
A Memorial Service was held January 5 at St. Pius Church.
CHURCHVILLE
Reinhardt, Eda R., Tuesday, January 1, 2002 at age 97. She was predeceased by her husband, John P. Reinhardt in 1966. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Nicholas (Diena) Reinhardt of Redmond, Washington; her niece Tina (Larry) Gruendike of Redmond, Washington; great niece Jacqueline LaFort; great nephew Lawrence Gruendike; many dear friends in-cluding, Stephen (Mary) Clarke of Churchville, Dolores Hoelle, Barbara Burns, Doreen Nugent, Ruth Odwazny, David and Gladys Alexander. She was a member of Chili Presbyterian Church.
Funeral Services were January 5 at Walker Brothers Company Funeral Home Inc., Churchville. Riexinger, Robert H., Sunday, January 6, 2002 at age 65. He was predeceased by his father, Howard T. Riexinger. He is survived by his wife Geraldine (Ottmar) Riexinger; his children, Douglas (Margaret), Duane (Donna), Darrin (Betsy), George (Tania), Karen (Stephen) Shepanski and Lisa (John) Ryan; his mother Ruth (Lynn) Carmer; his brothers, Edwin (Marilyn) and David (Charleen); his sister Beth (Joseph) Calabria; 13 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was a member of the Churchville Volunteer Fire Department.
Funeral Services were held January 10 at Ogden Baptist Church, Spencerport. Spring Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the Churchville Volunteer Fire Department in his memory.
HILTON
Benson, Nessy A., January 3, 2002 at age 91. Nessy is survived by her children, John (Patricia) Benson, Linda (Robert) Sylvester; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends. She was a long-time volunteer at Park Ridge Gift Shop and a member of Rochester Telephone Pioneers.
Funeral Services were held January 7 at St. Ann's Home Chapel, 1450 Portland Avenue. Contributions can be directed to GRHC-Hospice.
SPENCERPORT
Cunningham, Laura Marguarite (Reynolds), She was called home Monday, January 7, 2002 at age 92. She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Martin Cunningham Sr.; brothers, William, Joseph and Nelson Reynolds Jr.; sisters-in-law, Doris and Eileen Reynolds; her grandson, Michael A. Hall. She is survived by her loving family, sons, Martin Jr. (Beverly) and Gerald Cunningham; daughters Beverly (Robert) Kelley and Doris Hall of California; brothers George and Gerald (Agnes) Reynolds; sister-in-law, June Reynolds; 18 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was a Charter Member of the Spencerport Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
A Funeral Mass was said January 11 at St. John's Church, Spencerport. Interment St. John's Cemetery. Friends wishing can have Masses offered or contribute to the Spencerport Firemen's Exempt or to a charity of choice in her memory.
McClelland, Marion Helen (Fetzner), January 5, 2002. Married for 44 years to Allan R. McClelland who predeceased her in 1978. A resident of Spencerport since 1956. She is survived by her son, Rev. Neil A. McClelland (Linda) of Arcade, NY and three grandsons, Robert J. McClelland (Stacy) of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Scott A. McClelland of Austin, Texas and David S. McClelland of Grand Prairie, Texas; special adopted relatives Charles Parnell, Cindy Anderson and Ida Silver. She is also sur-vived by 13 nieces and nephews of whom Kathleen Burdick, Donna Walkley, Helen Genovese, Philip Dwyer, James Fetzner and Anne Parrish all have held special meaning. A member of Bethany Presbyterian Church for nearly 50 years of which she was an Ordained Elder for 30 years and member of the Women's Association for 47 years. The entire church was her family with special friendships of Elsie Gillette, Marjorie Grundke, Elsie MacGregor, the Gasts, Esselgroths, Blakes and too many further to mention ex-cept for her friend from childhood, Ruth Topham.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 19, 4 p.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church. Memorial gifts can be given to the Women's Association of Bethany Church, 3000 Dewey Avenue, Rochester 14616.
Vroom, Howard S., Born October 30, 1906, died December 31, 2001 at the age of 95. Predeceased by wife, Evelyn (Churchill), 1996; and sister, Alma Rogers. Survived by brother Clifford (Jean) Largo, Florida and nieces and nephews.
Mr. Vroom was raised on the Vroom Farm on Vroom Road in Spencerport and christened at Ogden Presbyterian Church where he attended church and Sunday School with his parents and grandmother, who drove a horse and buggy to attend church. His favorite hymn was "In The Garden."
Mr. Vroom was a WWII Army veteran, Eastman Kodak retiree and Pioneer Club member, Spencerport Volunteer and Exempt Fireman. He moved to Marathon, Florida January 1969. He was also a Mason for more than 50 years, a Shriner in Miami, Florida, a member of the Moose Club, Marathon, Florida and Past Commander and Life Member of the Marathon Power Squadron.
He owned horses for many years and was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He moved to the Westminster Retirement Home in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1998.

Ilma Wright Wiesen, former Spencerport business owner, died December 22, 2001 at the age of 99 following a brief illness.
She and Harold Wright were married in 1923 in Ogden. She owned and operated Wright Appliance in downtown Spencerport, while her husband operated a gas station in the village. After the gas station was sold, Mr. Wright joined his wife in the appliance store. Many years later, the appliance business was liquidated and they operated a Western Auto dealership. The couple sold their business in the 1960s and the couple retired to Tavares, Florida. Mr. Wright died in 1972.
She took an active role in the minstrel shows and local theatrical productions that took place in Spencerport, according to her daughter, Marjorie Goodridge Fenton. For approximately twenty years, she served as choir director at the Spencerport United Methodist Church. She was a member of Etolian Chapter No. 308 Order of the Eastern Star. In October 2001, she received the organization's Dedicated Service Award for her many years of service.
Though diminutive in stature, her talents were vast. She played the violin and was a talented artist, specializing in oil painting, china painting and stained glass. Wiesen also had articles and poems published in McCall's and in Reminisce's book about the Great Depression, We Had Everything But Money. While in her nineties, she had a book published - The Eye of the Beholder.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Harold Wright and Glen Wiesen; daughter, Marian Casburn; and granddaughter, Brenda Goodridge Gavett. She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Goodridge (Mark) Fenton of Webster; grandchildren, Donna (Ken) Greene of New Smyrna, Florida, Deborah Casburn Wheeler of Acworth, Georgia, Bradley (Judy) Goodridge of Nashville, Tennessee, Bryan Goodridge of Woodstock, Georgia, Mark (Cheryl) Casburn of Melbourne Florida and Randell (Cara) Casburn of San Angelo, Texas; many great grandchildren and friends.
