Holley inducts 16 students
into National Junior Honor Society
Holley Middle School inducted 16 new members into the National Junior Honor Society. During what was the 14th annual induction ceremony for the school, current members went into the audience and brought the new inductees up on stage. The students weren't told ahead of time, but their parents were notified so they could attend.
This year, 62 students were eligible based on an academic average of at least 85 percent. A faculty council of seventh- and eighth-grade teachers then made selections from those who applied for the honor based on qualities of character, scholarship, leadership, service and citizenship. During the ceremony, current members lit candles symbolizing each of these qualities and explained its traits.
The guest speaker at this year's ceremony was Dr. Paul Yu, President of SUNY Brockport. "Knowledge is the most important commodity in society, yet knowledge and skill are not enough," he told the students. "
A person must have good citizenship, integrity and character in order to put that knowledge to good use."
Sixteen Holley seventh- and eighth-graders were recently inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. They are: (l-r, front) Dawn Sommerfeldt, Margo Michaloski, Abraham Miller, Tracy Leupold, Amanda Seelman, Toni Hundley, JD Johnson, Honna Lusk and Erin Weber; (back) Kim Corser, Adam Johnson, Amanda Miler, Lisa Barrett, Patrick Glantz, Sadie Flow, and faculty advisors Julie Wantuck and Julie Judge. Not shown, Ashley Passarell.
