Cadets lose to #1 Fairport
"If that's the best team in the league, I'm happy. We did some nice things tonight offensively and made some good adjustments. Webster only scored 21 points against them so I'm happy with how we played." Those were Hilton girl's basketball head coach Michael Mayer's words following a 58-40 loss to the Red Raiders January 8 at home.
Hilton was outscored 19-10 in the second quarter and that provided their undoing. They were able to stay close in the second half only being outshot 21-17. After giving Fairport an 8-0 lead to start the game, the Cadets stormed back to within three points with Marisa Clark scoring six points and Amy Pratt making a pair of free throws and trailed by just five points after the first quarter.
Fairport scored 13 of the last 17 points in the first half to take a 14-point lead at the break. Clark scored ten of her 13 points in the first half and led Hilton in scoring. Pratt scored 11 points and Staci Weidert added seven. The Cadets were 10 of 19 from the free throw line. Fairport's Liz Hahn led all scorers with 21 points.
