Mike Zazzaro, a 16-year-old right-hander, recorded his first career 300 game during the Monroe County Holiday Tournament, an event which drew thirty local high school bowling teams.

Zazzaro, who was bowling for Spencerport High School, got off to a slow start in the December 28 event.

"I was getting used to my new ball and it took me two games to find my mark," he explained. "I ended up using the third arrow and going out with it."

Zazzaro said that his MoRich Colossus, drilled by Ed Stewart at Gates Pro Shop, was a birthday present.

"I only had a couple of games on it before the tournament," he added.

Except for what he described as a good break in the 5th frame, all of Zazzaro's strikes were perfect in the pocket.

"I was concentrating really well and tried to do the same thing before every ball. I was even sitting in the same chair every frame," Zazzaro admitted.

The sophomore topped his former career high of 267 and ended the tournament with a 615 3-game series. His all-time best in that category is "in the 650's," he said.

Unlike most High School bowlers, Zazzaro doesn't bowl in a regular Saturday morning league or the Boys Travel League.

"I had football on Saturdays during the fall. I've been practicing every week with my dad (Mike), though," he said.

Following a 448 two-game series in the High School League this past week, Zazzaro's average shot up to 175.

"My goal is to keep improving the average and to get a 700 series," he offered.
