AREA
Dick, C. Stewart, 99, of Winter Haven, Florida, died Friday, December 28, 2001 at Tandem Health Care in Winter Haven.
He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Eleanora M. Dick, of Winter Haven; one daughter, Dr. Sara J. (Fred) Boskovich, of Burr Ridge, Illinois; one sister, Margaret Goodridge of Geneseo, NY; one grandchild, Daniel LaPrairie, of Burr Ridge, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.
He was born in Ridge, New York August 22, 1902 and moved to Lake Wales, Florida from Churchville, NY in 1978. He then moved to Spring Haven in Winter Haven in 1991.
He was a Railroad Maintainer on New York Central Railroad until an accident in 1943, after which he joined the G.R.S. in Rochester until he retired in 1968.
He was a life-long member of the Churchville Union Congregational Church, and an Exempt Fireman until 1943. He was also a member of Churchville Masonic Lodge for 25 years and a member of Masonic Lodge 186 in Winter Haven. In 1996 he received an award for 70 years of service from the Masonic organization.
Knutowicz, Olga, Saturday, January 12, 2002 at age 82 in Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Rochester. She was predeceased by her daughter, Sharon Connelly. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Aloysius R. Knutowicz; her son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Joyce Knutowicz of Spencerport; five grandchildren, Michael (Rhonda) Knutowicz, Susan Knutowicz, Sean Connelly, Todd Knutowicz and Wendi (Michael) Tripi; five great grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass was said January 26 at St. John's Church, Spencerport. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Those wishing can make contributions to the School of the Holy Childhood, 100 Groton Parkway, Rochester, NY 14623 in her memory.
BERGEN
Hemry Sr., Herbert, Monday, January 21, 2002, age 70. Minister and member of New Apostolic Church of Batavia and retiree of E.I. DuPont. Survived by his wife of 46 years, Ruth A. Lang Hemry; father of Herbert Hemry Jr., Christopher B. (Nancy Jan) Hemry and Sharon A. (Steven) Lotterer; brother of Raymond (Mary) Hemry; grandfather of Aaron, Justin, Adam, Benjamin, Brandon, Brian and Brooke Hemry and James and Emily Lotterer; brother-in-law of Walter R. (Liz) Land and Ernest W. (Shirley) Lang; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Services were held January 25 at New Apostolic Church, 750 Marshall Road, Chili. Memorials can be made the Bergen Fire Department, P.O. Box 428, Bergen 14416.
BROCKPORT
Lanni, Evelyn J., Age 78, died January 8, 2002. Survived by brother, Albert (Mary) Lanni of Greece; nieces, Elaine Culhane of Williamsville, Janice (Charles) Marshall of Pittsford, Sharon (Mark) Petersheim of West Irondequoit and several other nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held January 26 at the Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, Greece. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Holley.
Osborn, Oren R. "Oz," Age 68, January 15, 2002. Survived by wife of 26+ years, Marilyn; son, Timothy (Rebecca Taylor); daughters, Denise (Doug) Konrad, Judy (Bill) Gould, Cheryl (Tom) Hartman, Daryl Chrisley; grandchildren, Christopher (Heather), Stephanie, Nikki, Theresa, Stevie, Joel, Richie, Zach, Katie, Matthew, Bill (Mel); as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held January 19 at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Homes, Inc., Holley. Interment will be in the spring in Hillside Cemetery. Memorials can be made to a charity of one's choice.
Peffer, Dorothy D. (Downey), Called peacefully home on Friday, January 18, 2002 at the age of 81. Predeceased by her husband, Francis and son, Thomas. Survived by her children, Fred (Sadako) Bernard, of Florida, Rosemarie Martin of Gates, Denise Wood; six grandchildren, Jennifer Martin, Rachael Fictum, Deanna Schefler, Kara St. Clair, Suszann and Kevin Peffer; three great grandchildren; her sister, Mary Cleveland; brother-in-law, Donald Peffer; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held February 16 at 11 a.m. at Nativity Chuch, Brockport. Contributions can be made to Church of Nativity BVM Brockport.
Pye, Ruth E. (Broderick), age 95, of Birmingham, Alabama, formerly of Brockport, Wednesday, January 9, 2002 after a short illness. She was predeceased by her husband, J. Franklin Pye. She leaves three daughters, Arlene Proctor, Dorchester, New Hampshire, Jeanne Sandford, Birmingham, Alabama and Bette Wing, Brockport; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
Mrs. Pye was a retired secretary of the Brockport School District.
Burial will be in Winthrop, Massachusetts, at the convenience of the family. Donations can be made to The Seymour Library, Brockport or to a charity of choice.
CLARKSON
Ophardt, Alfred P., Suddenly, January 17, 2002 at age 85. He is survived by his wife, Caroline (Wolf) Ophardt; his sons, Ronald A. (Donna) Ophardt and Charles E. (Joann) Ophardt; son-in-law, Wayne Young; five grandchildren, Greg (Tammy) Ophardt, Jeff (Karen) Young, Tammy Ophardt, Peter (Holly) Ophardt and Julie Emler; three great grand-daughters, Courtney, Melody and Emily; his brother, Vernon (Leora) Ophardt; sisters-in-law, Linda Wolf and Helen Radloff; his aunt Martha Ophardt; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his daughter, Carol Young and his brother, Walter Ophardt.

Leiter, Alfreda M., Peacefully on January 18, 2002 at the age of 85. She is survived by her loving husband of over fifty years, Donald M. Leiter; her daughter, Betty MacQuarrie; her grandchildren, Teri Vargas, Buz and Doug Hood and Lori MacQuarrie; her great-grandchildren, Ryan Vargas and Ashley Martinez; her sister, Irene Lewis; her sister-in-law, Margaret Smith; also several nieces, nephews and close friends. Alfreda was a charter member of the Hamlin VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #6703 and a charter member of the Pup Tent M.O.C.A. #13.

Howie, Gordon R., Sr., Peacefully on January 20, 2002 at age 78 with the love and support of his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joyce Howie; his children, Erynn (Lowell) Benjamin, and Gordon (Barbara) R. Howie, Jr.; his grandchildren, Kenneth (Donna) Haslip, Gordon (Kristine) R. Howie III, Judy (Kenneth) Honan and Peter (Sarah) Howie; his great grandchild, James Haslip; his brothers, George (Ruby), Charles (Sharon), Louis (Betty) Howie; his sisters, Helen Guelli and Doris Edwards; also many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Survived by her husband, August; her children, Judith (Gerald) McDermott, Donna (Roger) Seyba, Marilyn (Douglas) Haag, Rebecca (Brian) Wren; 11 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; her brothers, John, Richard (Carolyn), Fred (Sue), Donald, James (Roberta) and Perry Miller; brother-in-law, Clifford Allison; her sisters, Norma Proud and Gayle Wright.

Colby, Ethel L., Tuesday, January 22, 2002 in Boonville, NY. She is survived by two daughters, Anita (Frank) Sherman of Brockport, and Gloria (Drew) Webster of Eagle Bay, NY; her grandchildren, Michelle (Charles) Easton, Jeffrey Fairbank and Timothy Sherman; two great grandchildren, Bryan and Leah Easton; her brother, William (Betty) Lofthouse; sisters, Mary Holden and Nellie (William) Johnstone; several nieces and nephews. She was a retiree of the New York State Thruway Authority following 25 years of service.

Mitchell, David H., Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at age 60. He was predeceased by his daughter, Shelley and his twin sister, Donna. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sandra (Mingus) Mitchell; his children, Steven (Amy) Mitchell, Sheri (John) Akers and Patty Hanson (Michael Infantino); his grandchildren, Alyson Mitchell, Jackson and Paige Akers; his brother Gary (Faith) Mitchell; mother-in-law, Margaret Mingus; nephew Gary L. Mitchell Jr.; niece, Karen Echevarria. He was Past President of the Spencerport Rotary Club and was former Chairman of the Board of Lifetime Assistance, Inc.

Morgan, Lorraine M., Thursday, January 17, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Bernard E. Morgan; her children, Joseph (Sharon) Morgan, Eileen (Joseph) Blakely, James (Nancy) Morgan, Patrick (Eileen) Morgan of Arizona; nine grandchildren, Brian and Andrew Morgan, Benjamin and Abigail Blakely, Brittany, Margaret and Elizabeth Morgan, Anna and Quinn Morgan; her godson, Timothy Voorheis; her godmother and sister-in-law, Monica (George) McKinney; her sisters-in-law, Mary Morgan and Katherine Anne (George) Vincent; dear friends, Martha and Mary Ann; nieces, nephews and cousins. Lorraine was a devoted fan of the New York Mets.

Scheel, Eugene A. "Gene," Monday, January 21, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marilyn "Lynn" Scheel; children, Kathleen (John) Tucker, Debbie (Thomas) Batz of Texas and Erich (JoAnn) Scheel; grandchildren, Michelle (Scott) Valdez, Jillian and Kelsey Tucker, Amy (Jeff) Moore, Katie and James Batz, Erica, Ryan and Josef Scheel, Michael Kennedy; great grandsons, Gino Agostinelli Jr. and Keegan Moore. He was a long time employee of Ogden Telephone Company and was a member of Ferris Goodridge American Legion Post #330.

Thomas, Harold F., January 10, 2002 at age 81. Mr. Thomas was a WWII Veteran and the owner of the Gulliver Motel in Parma. Predeceased by his wife, Margaret Farrell Thomas, in 1996 and grandson, Eric Thomas Ropiteau, a September 11th victim.
