Amnesty International postcard recipient freed
Over 100 people took the time to write postcards of support to Ismail Adylov, a designated prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International. The Brockport Chapter of Amnesty International has received notification of Adylov's release from prison following a presidential pardon. The 51-year-old father of five, is a human rights defender whose activities brought him into conflict with the Uzbekistan government. A.I believed that the charges against him were fabricated and that his imprisonment was an effort to curtail his human rights activities.
Feelings of deep gratitude to all those who campaigned for his release have been expressed by Mr. Adylov, his family, and his organization, the Independent Human Rights Organization of Uzbekistan.
The opportunity for Brockport residents to send postcards of support through the Amnesty Summer Postcard Action is provided annually by the Brockport Chapter of A.I. The group meets on the third Thursday of each month, at 7:30 p.m., in the Sweden Town Hall. For additional information, call 395-9449.
