Byron-Bergen schedules kindergarten registration
Children in the Byron-Bergen School District who will be five years of age in the Byron-Bergen School District on, or before, December 1, 2002, are eligible for entrance to kindergarten in September of 2002.
Families new to the school district should notify the school if they have a child that will enter kindergarten in September 2002. Parents may contact the Byron-Bergen Elementary School Office by calling 494-2220, ext. 1301. Information may also be sent to the Byron-Bergen Elementary School, 6971 West Bergen Road, Bergen, New York 14416.
Children will be scheduled, prior to the registration, to meet with guidance staff for an individualized screening examination. Results of the screening will be analyzed and information utilized to plan for the 2002-2003 kindergarten program. An information program concerning the screening procedure will be held at the Elementary School on Tuesday evening, March 5 at 7 p.m. in the Cafetorium.
State law requires that every child entering school must have received a minimum of three doses of diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus vaccine (DPT) and three doses of polio (OPV or IPV) vaccine. Each child must also have been immunized against mumps, measles and rubella (German measles) on or after his/her first birthday. All children entering kindergarten will require a second dose of measles vaccine. MMR is the preferred vaccine to meet this requirement. All children entering kindergarten are required to have three doses of Hepatitis B vaccine. The chicken pox vaccine is also recommended.
Parents who plan to enroll an eligible child in the Byron-Bergen Elementary kindergarten program in September 2002 are asked to call 494-2220, ext. 1301 and ask for Becky Kelly.
