Fitness and Recreational Sports Management
degree program coming to GCC
An Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree program in Fitness and Recreational Sports Management will be part of Genesee Community College's offerings, pending approval by the State University of New York and the New York State Education Department. The college hopes to officially launch the program this fall.
The program is geared toward students who wish to work in the growing fitness and sports management field in fitness centers, corporate fitness and recreation departments, stress management clinics, public and private recreational programs, and other workplaces offering fitness and wellness services. The program is expected to serve about 25 students when it opens.
Although some students may choose to continue their education after graduating from Genesee, the Fitness and Recreation Sports Management degree is ideal for students who wish to enter the workplace immediately after graduation.
In addition to courses in the liberal arts and sciences, students will study anatomy and physiology, fitness concepts, nutrition, safety and first aid, exercise physiology, kinesiology, and other subjects related to the field. Students will also complete a one-semester internship program designed to give students "real-world" skills in addition to their classroom training.
