Brockport gymnasts ranked second
The SUNY Brockport gymnastics team is ranked second in the country (as of January 23) after winning the Brockport Invitational Saturday.
The Golden Eagles have 178.100 points, just short of Wisconsin-LaCrosse who leads the nation with 181.050 points. Ursinus has 176.875 points for third and Wisconsin River Falls is fourth with 176.800 points. Springfield is fifth and Ithaca College is sixth, followed by Gustavus Adolphus, Cortland, Rhode Island College and M.I.T.
Individually, the Golden Eagles have two athletes in the top 10 and three ranked in the top 20 nationally in all-around competition. Sophomore Carrie Santore (Webster/Webster) is third nationally and freshman Jordan Christiano (Hilton/Hilton) is ranked sixth. Another freshman, Tara Lynch (Milton, VT/Milton), is ranked 19th in the all-around.
Sophomore Jessica Bowman (Oswego/Oswego) is ranked fourth in the vault, and Christiano stands ninth. Christiano is ranked fifth in the beam and sophomore Santore is 13th nationally and Bowman 14th in the beam.
In the rankings for the floor exercise, Santore stands sixth and Christiano is 13th. Bowman stands 14th nationally in the floor rankings. In bars competition, sophomore Jen Auleta (Woodbury/Syosset) is ranked 22nd and freshman Amy Biclunis (Richmond, NH/Monadnock Regional) is ranked 25th.
Overall, Bowman, Christiano and Santore are in the top 15 in three categories each.
The Golden Eagles are on the road for the remainder of their season.
