Sounds of Salsa
Holley Middle and High School students taking Spanish had the opportunity to use some Latin rhythm instruments when Los Caribes (The Caribbeans) performed Salsa, Samba and Latin Jazz music at their school recently. The four-person band demonstrated the traditional instruments used in Salsa music and gave a brief history on its development. Students were invited up on stage to perform with the band and by the end of the performance, both the musicians and audience were really cocinando (cooking)! The program is part of Young Audiences of Rochester, a not-for-profit arts-in-education organization and service of Monroe 1 BOCES. Shown are (l-r) ninth-grader Jon Morris, and 11th graders Jackie Shillington and Krysten Widrig.
