Functional sculptures on display at Seymour Library

Morning and Evening Prayer Benches created by local artist Jennifer Heckler are currently on display at the Seymour Library, 161 East Avenue, Brockport.

Heckler says these benches take their form from docks on water. They are about reflection, both as a visual phenomenon and as a state of contemplation or spiritual meditation. The experience of sitting on her dock and thinking inspired these sculptures.

Jennifer Heckler is an Associate Professor in the Department of Art at SUNY College at Brockport, where she has taught since 1989. She teaches both sculpture and general education art courses. She is currently in her sixth year serving as chairperson of the department. In 1999, she was awarded a Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. Last spring, she created "Horsefeathers" for Rochester's Horses on Parade.
