Brockport Men win 20th of the season
SUNY Brockport got revenge against the team that provided it with its only defeat. The Golden Eagles improved to 20-1 with a 79-72 home victory over Buffalo State February 5 in front of a season-best 1,168 at Tuttle North Gymnasium in Brockport.
With the victory, Brockport, ranked #4 in the d3hoops.com poll, posted its third straight 20-win season and sixth in school history. The Golden Eagles improved to 11-1 in the SUNYAC and sent second place Buffalo State to a 9-3 conference record. Buffalo State is 13-5 overall.
Mike Medbury (Attica) scored 24 points for Brockport, his fourth 20-point game and his 20th straight in double-figure scoring. Alex Smith (Rochester) scored 11 points with four rebounds and Brockport shot 57% in the second half, 51 percent for the game.
The Golden Eagles trailed 30-26 at halftime and were outrebounded, 22-11 in the first 20 minutes. The Bengals led 40-34 at 15:28 of the second and had their last lead at 46-45 with 11:31 remaining in regulation. But in the next 5:33, a 19-10 Brockport run put it away. The Golden Eagles' largest lead with 13 at 76-63 with 1:58 left to play.
Pat Adams and Drew Mclaren scored 13 points each and Willie Sanders added 11 for the Bengals. Buffalo State shot 45 percent and out rebounded Brockport, 35-26.
The Golden Eagles were on the road the weekend of February 8-9 with SUNYAC games at Potsdam and Plattsburgh.
