Allen achieves
Eagle Scout rank

Boy Scout Troop 90 held a Court of Honor January 8 to recognize Benjamin David Allen for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Friends and family were in attendance at the First Baptist Church in Chili.

He was escorted to the front of the church along the "Eagle Trail" by Eagle Scouts Mike Ottley and Bill Rowe. Life Scout Alan Mattice acted as Master of Ceremonies. Opening remarks were made by Bob Easterly. Scoutmaster Keith Wimer rededicated the Scout Oath. Assistant Scoutmaster Jim Gagnon spoke about Allen and his years in scouting. The presentation of plaques and letters of recognition followed. Cathy Wiedemer, on behalf of the Monroe County Legislature, offered congratulations to Allen.

To earn the rank of Eagle, a scout must earn 21 merit badges, hold leadership positions within the troop, and complete an approved community service project. He started scouting with Troop 156 and joined Troop 90 in 1997, and has earned 27 merit badges. He has held the positions of assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, and senior patrol leader. He became a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow in 1999.

For his Eagle project, Allen planned and organized a painting project at St. Vincent DePaul's Church in Churchville. A group of scouts, friends, and family painted the garage and the trim on the rectory.

Allen, 18, is the son of Ann and David Allen. He has a younger sister, Nadine, and lives in Riga. The Churchville-Chili High School senior's future plans include attending Alfred State College for engineering in the fall.

His Court of Honor was preceded by a Court of Awards. Tenderfoot Rank was awarded to Ryan Moses. Matt Herrington earned Second Class. First Class Rank was awarded to Jordan Marks. Merit badges were also presented.
