Authority on counterterrorism visits area
Former chief hostage negotiator of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and SUNY College at Brockport graduate, Clinton VanZant, will make two appearances in the area.
VanZandt, a popular and entertaining lecturer, will discuss issues such as homeland security in the wake of September 11, his involvement with several high profile cases, crisis management, hostage negotiation and survival techniques.
Tuesday, March 5, at 7 p.m., VanZandt will lecture in the Ballroom of Seymour College Union at SUNY Brockport. The lecture is free for alumni, students, faculty and staff; $5 for the general public.
VanZandt will also speak Wednesday, March 6, at 8 p.m. in the Memorial Art Gallery Auditorium. Tickets are $5 and seating is limited.
In addition to his work as chief hostage negotiator, VanZandt was involved in FBI operations at Ruby Ridge, Idaho, and Waco, Texas. He also led the team that identified "Unabomber" Theodore Kaczynski and is a participant in the ongoing Jon Benet Ramsey case. He is contracted with NBC, MSNBC and CNBC as an authority on terrorism. He graduated from SUNY Brockport in 1982 with a master's degree in public administration.
