Dobbertin achieves Eagle Scout rank
Boy Scout Troop 90 held a Court of Honor to recognize Nicholas John Dobbertin for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Friends and family were in attendance at the First Baptist Church in Chili to honor him for this achievement.
Dobbertin was escorted to the front of the church along the "Eagle Trail" by Eagle Scouts Mike Ottley and Bill Rowe. Life Scout Alan Mattice acted as Master of Ceremonies. Opening remarks were made by Bob Easterly, and Assistant Scoutmaster Jim Gagnon rededicated the Scout Oath. John Sibbald spoke about Dobbertin and his years in scouting. The presentation of plaques and letters of recognition followed. Cathy Wiedemer, on behalf of the Monroe County Legislature, offered congratulations to Dobbertin.
To earn the rank of Eagle, a scout must earn 21 merit badges, hold leadership positions within the troop, and complete an approved community service project. Dobbertin joined Troop 90 in 1994. He has earned 39 merit badges and has held the positions of Assistant Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, Senior Patrol Leader, and Troop Scribe. He became a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow in 1999 and earned the World Conservation Award.
For his Eagle project, Dobbertin planned and organized a New York State Department of Conservation project. He led a group of scouts and family members who built 30 Eastern Bluebird boxes. They installed the birdhouses in various Town of Chili parks.
Dobbertin, 18, is the son of Kerry and John Dobbertin of Chili. He has four younger siblings. The Aquinas Institute graduate is a freshman at Notre Dame University and is interested in a career in architecture.
Dobbertin's Court of Honor was preceded by a Court of Awards. Tenderfoot Rank was awarded to Ryan Moses. Matt Herrington earned Second Class. First Class Rank was awarded to Jordan Marks. Merit badges were also presented.
