Hilton High School musical,
"Guys & Dolls," presented March 7-10
"Guys & Dolls," the legendary Broadway musical, will be performed at Hilton High School, 400 East Avenue, Hilton, on March 7-10.
Loosely based on the rough and tumble world of gamblers and gangsters in New York City, the story is based on the writing of '30s pulp fiction writer Damon Runyon. In 1950 Frank Loesser wrote the music and lyrics; the book by Abe Burrows.
The musical is the story of two couples, one wonderfully romantic, Sky Masterson played by Jason Mincer, and Miss Sarah Brown played by Sarah Mattison; the other loveably goofy, Nathan Detroit played by Bill Bower and Ms. Adelaide played by Jamie Delgatti. The cast is complete with its share of characters including Rusty Charlie played by Michael Hughson and Benny Southstreet played by Derek Stoll.
Among the famous hit tunes in the show are "I've Never Been in Love Before," and "Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat," described as some of the catchiest, strongest scores Broadway has ever known. "Guys & Dolls" was the fifth longest-running show on Broadway in the 1950s.
The musical director is teacher Kathleen Lampe with technical direction by Nicholas Williams, both Hilton High School vocal teachers. Choreographer is Mandy Griffith with costumes by Linda Ogletree. Tickets are $8 adults; $5 students/senior citizens and are available at all Hilton Schools Main Offices as well as the Hilton Big M Grocery Store.
There is a free senior citizen performance on Thursday, March 7, at 7 p.m. The Friday and Saturday, March 8-9 performances, are at 7:30 p.m. and the March 10, Sunday matinee, is at 2 p.m. For ticket information, call 392-1000 ext. 2296.
