Brockport SEAS
Swim Club hosts meet
The Brockport SEAS competitive swim club played host to 17 teams from the Niagara District at one of their annual invitational meets on Saturday, February 16. The venue was the recently refurbished Brockport High School natatorium. In all, 187 athletes participated in 48 events in two four-hour sessions. For the uninitiated, United States Swimming sanctioned one-day invitationals are typically divided into two sessions: swimmers aged ten and under swim in the morning, twelve and unders and open divisions swim in the afternoon.
Unlike the more familiar high school format, where a swimmer may be entered in two individual and two relay events, these participants may swim as many as five individual and two relay events. Though many teams compete, invitational meets are geared toward the individual competitors endeavoring to attain bronze, silver, or gold times in a continuous effort to excell. As their times improve, swimmers are allowed to enter more prestigious meets at the district level with ever increasing difficulty of competition.
The Brockport SEAS is a year-round club, which practices nightly at the Brockport High School pool. Swimmers ranging in age from seven to eighteen are welcome. The club currently has graduates swimming for several prominent Division one, two and three schools, such as: St. Bonaventure, Niagara, Colgate, LeMoyne, Hamilton, and St. Lawrence to name a few.
