Reed & Shaw lead Saints
With their third-leading scorer Pat Martin fighting the flu, seniors Elijah Reed and Tony Shaw scored 48 of Churchville-Chilis 57 points in a 57-50 basketball victory over Penfield in the first round of the sectional playoffs.
The Saints led by as many as eleven points in the fourth quarter before allowing three three-pointers by the Chiefs to pull them within four with 1:10 left in the game. But the Saints went 3-4 from the foul line in the final minute to ice the game.
"We work well together," said Reed of himself and Shaw. "I get the ball inside to him and he kicks it back out for the three-pointers. He (Shaw) was out during part of the first half with foul trouble which took away half of our offense for a while tonight, but we came back in the second half."
Reed led all scorers with 32 points. Shaw added 17 and Casey Becker added three points off the bench. Martin and Pat Jenkins chipped in with two points each.
The Saints, now 14-8 for the season, beat Greece Athena in the second round and advanced to play Gates Chili in the Class AA semi-finals at the Blue Cross Arena.
