Olympic Gold Medal athlete
to host volleyball clinic
Gold-medal winning Olympic athlete Dain Blanton will host a volleyball clinic for local youth Saturday, March 23, 2002 at Nazareth College's Otto Shults Center from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The clinic is open to the public for a donation to Special Olympics Monroe County. Local athletes who want to participate in the clinic should call the Special Olympics office at 585-586-7400.
Blanton is in Rochester for the 11 annual "Crystal Ball, Olympic Gala" hosted by Special Olympics at the Hyatt Regency Rochester that evening.
He represented the United States Beach Volleyball team in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
In 1997, Blanton became a pioneer in the sport of beach volleyball, becoming the first African American pro player in the history of the sport to win a major title.
