New skate ramp welcomed in Parma

In "Field of Dreams," the movie concept was if you build it, they will come. The reality of the Parma Town Hall Skate Park facility is that skaters and skateboard enthusiasts have been enjoying the ramps and rails in large numbers since it opened in 1999, according to town representatives. Now in its fourth year, a new mini half-pipe has been added thanks to contributors: M & T Bank, the Apple Fest Committee, Reality Check, the pouring rights from the Town Hall Pepsi machine, and a price discount from Parkitects that made it possible to purchase this $9,120 ramp.

Director of Recreation and Parks Steve Fowler said he feels the collaborative efforts of all involved demonstrate the importance of this facility to the community. "The number of youth who come to our skate park daily, as well as the town board's commitment to enhance the park with amenities such as a tot skate area, soda machines, and updating the existing ramps, shows the positive attributes of building this park. The support from the private sector and Reality Check help to reinforce the need for this facility and make it more exciting for our youth," said Fowler.

On Saturday, March 23, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the park to celebrate the addition of the 30' long, 3' high ramp to the skating area.
