Matthew Montanaro, of Rochester, has been named to the dean's list for the winter quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A second-year student in the College of Science, Montanaro is studying physics. He is the son of Nick and Romea Montanaro of Rochester and is a 2001 graduate of Aquinas Institute.


Carla Longobardi, of Ryan's Run, Rochester, has been named to the dean's list for the winter quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A freshman student in the College of Applied Science and Technology, Longobardi is studying hotel and resort management.

She is the daughter of Carmen and Maureen Longobardi of Rochester and is a 2001 graduate of Spencerport High School.


Mark Englert, a driver for United Parcel Service, was honored by the company for completing 25 years of service.

Business Manager Jack Smith presented Englert with a 25-year service award at a ceremony, held at UPS's Rochester facility, honoring his achievement. He began his career as a driver in 1977. He currently provides delivery service in the Rochester area.

Englert and his wife, Lisa, reside in Hamlin. They have two children, Kyle and Meaghan.


Matthew Stafford, son of Kathy and Carl Stafford of Kristin Drive, Gates, is recipient of the Sear-Brown Group Scholarship from the Monroe Professional Engineers Society, awarded through the Rochester Engineering Society scholarship program.

Stafford, a senior at Churchville-Chili High School, plans to study engineering at Clarkson University.


Adam Steinwachs, of Churchville, first year assistant track coach at Roberts Wesleyan College, competed in the Triple Jump March 30, at the Purdue Invitational in Track and Field in West Lafayette, Indiana.

He placed fourth with a jump of 47 feet 7 inches. Other local athletes participating included Jaclyn Schifino, Purdue pole vaulter, who finished 4th with a first attempt clearance at 10' 6", a personal best.

Both athletes will be trying out for this summer's Empire State Games.


Andrew Woodbridge, a senior theater major and member of the Lycoming College Tour Choir, performed at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California. The entire choir appeared on the "Hour of Power," an internationally televised religious service, at the beginning of March. He is a graduate of Spencerport High School and is a resident of Spencerport. He signs Tenor II.


The following Syracuse University seniors have been selected to receive an award as part of the University's Senior Scholarship Program for the 2001-02 academic year:

•Maureen Carroll of Spencerport. Carroll, a senior in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, received the Charles P. and Fannie G. Dexter Scholarship.

•Haverly Erskine of Spencerport. Erskine, a senior in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, received the Bender-Scheer Scholarship.

•Natalie Jones of Rochester. Jones, a senior in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, received the Rochester Alumni Club Scholarship.

•Jullian Parkhurst of Brockport. Parkhurst, a senior in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, received the Ruth and Herbert Meyer Scholarship.

•Anna Roggow of Brockport. Roggow, a senior in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, received the Ruth and Herbert Meyer Scholarship.


The following student is spending the spring, 2002 semester studying in Florence, Italy through Syracuse University's Division of International Programs Abroad.

Danielle Battisti of Spencerport. Battisti is a sophomore majoring in history at Colgate University.


Jessica Schubel of Brockport, a junior majoring in history and international relations in the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University, is the section editor of the 2002 edition of the Onondagan, the official yearbook of Syracuse University.


DeAnna Klapp, of North Chili, has been nominated as the Monroe County Legislature 2002 Young Citizen of the Year by the co-advisor of the Churchville-Chili Middle School Service Club. This award recognizes Monroe County residents who exhibit positive values, leadership and volunteer service in the community. She is also active in chorus, band, swimming and soccer. She is in her seventh year of study at Samurai Martial Arts on Spencerport Road in Gates, having achieved the rank of first degree black belt in Isshin Ryu karate. DeAnna, daughter of Joe and Carol Klapp, is attending sixth grade at the CCMS.


Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Monroe Community College has inducted the following students into the society.

Army Reserve Sgt. Blanche A. Woffingdale has deployed to a forward operating area to support the mission of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The sergeant is regularly assigned to the 489th Civil Affairs Battalion in Knoxville, Tennessee.

She is the daughter of Gloria Woffingdale of Rochester. Her sister, Julie Rankin, resides in Churchville.
Woffingdale is a 1998 graduate of Eastridge Senior High School, Rochester.


Marine Corps Sgt. Jason T. Jacobs, son of Ann M. and Timothy L. Jacobs, Brockport, was promoted to his current rank while serving with Marine Wing Support Squadron 171, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan.

Jacobs was promoted based on sustained superior job performance and proficiency in his designated specialty.

He is a 1997 graduate of Brockport High School and joined the Marine Corps in August 1997.
