Exercise for better health
Those with Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes now have a program designed to guide them to better health. Unity Health System's Diabetes Exercise Program is designed to educate those with diabetes on lifestyle changes that will help them better manage their diabetes and their overall health.
Meeting twice a week for eight weeks, participants are guided through classes on lifestyle changes, how exercise effects their bodies and their diabetes, ways to reduce overall body fat and how to maintain blood sugar control. Participants also receive instruction on proper exercise technique to optimize their work-out routine.
Exercise specialists in medical rehabilitation lead the class. Each one and a half-hour class involves an educational and exercise component with weekly monitoring of successes.
The Diabetes Exercise Program is held at Unity Health Cardiac Rehabilitation, 687 Lee Road. New classes begin May 6 or 7, call 458-8320 for additional information.
