C-C Board of Education adopts budget proposal
The Churchville-Chili Board of Education has adopted a proposed budget of $50,964,764 for the 2002-2003 school year. The year-to-year increase in expenditures is 3.99 percent. In developing the budget, the Board of Education considered input from administrators, faculty, staff and district residents, according to district representatives.
The proposed increase is largely due to accommodating the new physical plant coming into service, enrollment shifts and contractual labor agreements. These changes, coupled with little or no increase in value assessments in the district, flat county sales tax revenues due to the economic downturn, and rising health care and retirement system costs have had a negative impact on the 2002-2003 budget. "In looking for ways to reduce costs, consideration was given to those programs and services most distant from direct classroom instruction," says Superintendent Mary Alice Price.
Residents who want more information on the budget can call Assistant Superintendent for Administration Ralph Smith, 293-1800 ext. 2320. In addition, a Candidate Information and Budget Hearing Meeting will be held Tuesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. in the Administrative Board Room at the Administration Building, 139 Fairbanks Road.
