On Sunday, April 28, local recording artist Josie Waverly, along with several other local bands, will be holding a benefit concert at Josie's Country Jukebox, 5435 West Ridge Road, Spencerport. The concert, entitled Music for Aimee, will be held from 3 to 9 p.m.

Aimee Braden was seriously injured in an auto accident on her way to work last March 19. She received a head injury that left her unable to speak, and suffering from muscular spasticity. She can understand what people are saying to her, because she has successfully signaled yes and no with her thumb and forefinger. Aimee's family is still hoping for progress in her recovery, but it's very slow, and they have many expenses associated with her care. She is home, with her Mom and Dad as primary caregivers.

About her daughter, Aimee's mother, Roberta Braden writes:

Aimee is 24 years old. She is our only child and the joy of our life. Aimee is a good kid, funny, kind and very loving. When she was little she did all the things kids do. She walked at eight months, and I can't remember a time she didn't talk. You know how at 3 or 4 months, babies coo and laugh, that was her.

About 4 and 5, she played dolls (Barbie alot) and "Love Boat" and "Alice." She pretended she was Julie and carried a clip board around telling everyone they were on the lido deck or scheduled for some activity. Or sometimes she'd take our food orders and I'd have to pin a hankey to her shirt. "Kiss my grits!")

She put herself through school to be a dental assistant and MCC for secretarial. She had worked her way up the pay ladder to a great job.

She had a boyfriend, Jason, and they were looking toward a future. They wanted to buy a house in the fall of 2001, work on it, fix it up, and get married in spring of 2002. Jason is still hanging in there and helping us.

And our prayer is that God will heal Aimee. Her friends still stop over to visit. We are working with her every day. And just before Christmas she spoke "Hi, Mama."

The bands performing will offer a wide variety of music including Country, Rock, Blues and Dixieland. The bands on the schedule will be The Smugtown Stompers, Third Degree, Intrigue, The Boogiemen, Ezra and the Fat Daddies, JB and Company; and Josie Waverly will make an appearance. Food will also be served throughout the afternoon.
