An elementary school will grow here
In ceremonies April 6, Spencerport school officials, Board of Education members and district residents joined together to break ground for a new elementary school. The students served as representatives for the district's three elementary schools, the middle school and the high school. The $46.9 million capital improvement project approved by voters in March 2000 will include the new school located east of the current Leo Bernabi School; a new wing for sixth graders to be added to Cosgrove Middle School, along with an expanded cafeteria and new gym at that school; new technology, new general classrooms and a new auditorium at the high school; and a new multi-purpose field with an all weather track, new tennis courts and new soccer and softball fields. Expected completion is September 2003. Shown at the traditional "digging in" ceremony are (l to r) Lawrence Fenity, Spencerport Board of Education president; Julie Pillittere, Bernabi fifth-grader; David Winter, Taylor second grader; Nicholas Pucillo, Cosgrove eighth grader; David Dorofy, Spencerport Board of Education vice-president; Kathleen Finucane, Spencerport High School 11th-grader; Phillip Langton, superintendent of schools.
