Mercy's Squires to play Division 1
at George Washington University
Ashley Squires of Our Lady of Mercy High School has signed a letter of intent to play NCAA Division 1 soccer at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
A four-year varsity soccer player, Ashley was captain for the 2000 and 2001 seasons. In 2001, she led her team to their first undefeated regular season, Section V Championship, and to the New York State semi-finals. She was one of Channel 10 NBC Scholar Athletes last fall and was regarded as the "heart and soul of the team" by Mercy's head coach, Bill Selner.
Her soccer career started with Chili Soccer Club, where she started playing premier soccer at 13 years of age with the Rochester Spirit Soccer Club (currently Rochester Junior Rhinos), and New York West Olympic Development Program.
She is the daughter of Gary and Katherine Squires and has three brothers, Patrick, a sophomore at McQuaid High School, Adam, a student at Boston College, and Matt, a student at Wheaton College, also in Massachusetts. She resides in Churchville and has attended Our Lady of Mercy High School since 8th grade.
