Timothy J. Scata, of Parkhurst Drive, Spencerport, has been named to the dean's list for the winter quarter at Rochester Institute of Technology. A second year student in RIT's B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, Scata is studying in the Information Technology program.
Scata, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Scata, Sr., is a 2000 graduate of Spencerport High School.
Nancy P. Huffman of Churchville, will be the keynote speaker at the State University College at Buffalo Department of Speech-Language Pathology annual awards dinner on May 2, 2002. Huffman, a Buffalo State alumna, is chair of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's Board of Ethics.
Hartwick College freshman Brandon M. Arva, of Spencerport, son of Pamela M. Arva and Bruce H. Arva, has been named to the fall term dean's list at Hartwick College.
Arva is majoring in music education.
The National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), a college of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), is furthering its mission to educate students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
Denise Wellin of Churchville was recently promoted to associate director of admissions in NTID's Office of Recruitment and Enrollment from senior admissions counselor. Previously, Wellin held posts at Monroe Community College and Alfred University, most recently as career assessment and development counselor at MCC. She received her master of science degree in education from Alfred University, Alfred, NY.
Jason Dahlman (Spencerport/Aquinas Institute) was second in the pole vault (16-2.75) at Ohio State. The Ashland University junior is a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Division II national meet.
James Schiebel was named Walker Fire Department Fire Fighter of the Year for 2001-2002. A retired teacher from Hilton Central School, Schiebel now divides his time among the Walker Fire Department, the Hilton Lions Club, the SUNY Brockport Lions Club, and the Hamlin Conservation Board.
Ceremonies were held on April 4, 2002, when twenty-three Niagara University students were inducted into Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society, the National Criminal Justice Honor Society. Membership is limited to students who have obtained junior or senior status and have an overall G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher.
Among area residents inducted was Joseph Nyiri, Ballard Avenue, Spencerport.
Adrienne Collier, PHR, has been appointed affirmative action officer and assistant director of human resources at SUNY College at Brockport.
Collier comes to SUNY Brockport from the Walt Disney World Company in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, where from 2000-2002 she was the company's human resources employee relations' representative. Prior to her employment at Walt Disney World Company, she was an employee relations associate for more than five years in the Employee Relations Department at the University of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY.
Collier will be responsible for administering the college's recruitment, hiring, and equal employment opportunity policies and procedures, ensuring the college's compliance with related laws, rules, and regulations dealing with human rights. She will also be responsible for developing and administering the college's Affirmative Action Compliance Plan, including the collection and analysis of data, the maintenance of required records, and the preparation and submission of required internal and external reports.
Robin Goodwin, of Hilton, received the Craftsman of the Year award on April 26. The criteria for the Craftsman of the Year award include consideration of achievements and contributions to the local club, attendance at Board of Governors and regular meetings, offices and committee chairs held, contributions and achievements on the Third District level, including the betterment of relations between Canadian and American Craftsmen, achievements in graphic arts education, and achievements and contributions to the community as a whole. The award was presented by the Rochester Club of Printing House Craftsmen, Inc.
Sandy Blonsky, Broker Associate of Re/Max First Greece Office, was recently awarded the Sales Master Gold Award by her peers in The Greater Rochester Association of Realtors. This award is achieved based on 60 closed transactions or $6 million in closed sales in a 12 month period. She was also recognized by the Women's Council of Realtors, at the Breakfast of Champions, with the Zenith Award.
Blonsky has been a realtor for over 17 years. She is a part of the Terri Granger and Sandy Blonsky All Star Team. She resides in the village of Hilton.
